Vinted seller since 2021

Hi, I'm Alex. I started selling on Vinted back in 2021 - originally just to clear out a wardrobe full of clothes I hadn't worn in years. I listed a few things, made a couple of hundred quid, and thought “that's it then.”

Except it wasn't. I started noticing that certain items sold incredibly quickly. A North Face jacket I'd picked up for £8 at a charity shop went for £45 in under two hours. A pair of barely-worn New Balance trainers I found at a car boot sold for £32 before I'd even got home. The margins were genuinely shocking.

So I went from casual declutterer to deliberate reseller. I started tracking everything in a spreadsheet - what I paid, what I sold it for, packaging costs, time spent. Over the next 18 months, I quietly crossed £10,000 in total Vinted sales. Not because I had some secret formula, but because I was systematic about knowing my numbers.

The problem was that most of the “Vinted calculator” tools I found online were either wrong (Vinted charges sellers nothing - a lot of sites still get this wrong), out of date, or just not useful for UK sellers. Postage prices were wrong. Fee structures were guesses. Tax guidance was non-existent.

So I built Seller Profit - the tool I wish had existed when I started. Every calculator is based on Vinted's actual published documentation and UK HMRC guidance. Where information isn't published (like the exact buyer protection fee tiers), I flag it clearly rather than making something up.

The site is completely free. There are no sign-ups, no premium tiers, no upsells. Just honest tools for UK Vinted sellers.

The £10k journey

Spring 2021

First sale

Listed a Barbour jacket that had been sat in a bag for three years. Sold in 45 minutes for £55. I thought it was a fluke. It wasn't.

Summer 2021

First £500 month

Started visiting charity shops with intent. Learned which brands moved fast on Vinted - Ralph Lauren, The North Face, Levi's, Stone Island. Built a mental model of what was worth picking up.

Autumn 2021

Discovered the postage advantage

Realised that Vinted's integrated shipping - where the buyer pays - fundamentally changes the maths compared to eBay. On eBay I was subsidising postage. On Vinted, it's irrelevant to my profit.

Early 2022

Hit the HMRC threshold

Crossed the 30-sale mark that triggers Vinted's HMRC reporting. Spent an anxious weekend googling tax rules before understanding that the £1,000 trading allowance and the decluttering/trading distinction are quite sensible once you understand them.

Mid 2022

£5,000 total

Halfway there. By this point I had a proper system: photograph items in natural light on the same neutral background, price at 70–80% of the lowest eBay sold price, bump on Sunday evenings.

Late 2022

£10,000 total - and a website idea

Hit the milestone on a rainy Thursday afternoon when a vintage Levi's sherpa jacket sold for £85. Sat down that evening and started sketching out what would become Seller Profit.
