My first Vinted listing was a Next utility jacket. I'd had it two years, worn it maybe four times, and it was sitting in a bag at the bottom of the wardrobe. I took one photo in the hallway - not great lighting, slightly crooked - wrote three lines, and priced it at £8.
It sold within six hours. I got £8.
That was the moment I understood: Vinted is genuinely different. No commission taken. No fees subtracted. The £8 I listed it at was the £8 that hit my bank account.
The problem? I immediately knew I'd underpriced it. A similar jacket was selling for £22–£28 on Vinted at the time. I'd left £14–£20 on the table because I hadn't done five minutes of research first.
This guide is the walkthrough I wish I'd had before that first listing. Follow it and you'll avoid the same mistake.
Step 1: Create Your Account
Download the Vinted app (iOS or Android) or go to vinted.co.uk on desktop. Sign up with an email address or via Google/Facebook/Apple login.
A few things worth doing immediately after signing up:
- Add a profile photo. A real face photo converts better than a logo or blank avatar. Buyers are more likely to purchase from a profile that looks like a real person.
- Write a short bio. Two or three sentences about what you sell and your despatch turnaround. "I sell women's clothing sizes 10–14 and kids' 5–10 years. I post within 2 days." That's enough.
- Verify your email and phone number. Vinted prompts you to do this - get it done early. You can't withdraw money until your identity is verified.
- Add your bank details. Go to Settings > My balance > Add bank account. Do this before your first sale, not after.
Step 2: Photograph Your Items
Photos are the single biggest lever you have over how quickly something sells - and at what price. Vinted allows up to 20 images per listing. Use them.
The non-negotiables:
Natural light over artificial. Take photos by a window or outside on an overcast day. Avoid flash - it washes out colours and creates unflattering shadows. A slightly grey day is ideal; harsh sunshine creates blown-out highlights.
Clean background. White wall, light grey carpet, a plain door. Avoid patterned rugs, cluttered rooms, pets in shot. Buyers want to see the item, not your living room.
Multiple angles. Front, back, label/brand tag, size tag, any flaws, inside lining, close-up of hardware or buttons. If you list a pair of trainers, photograph both shoes individually, the soles, the laces, and the tongue label.
Photograph every flaw. A small mark, a pulled thread, a faded patch - photograph it and mention it in the description. Buyers who know about flaws upfront rarely complain. Buyers who discover them on arrival definitely do.
Step 3: Write a Listing That Actually Sells
Vinted's search algorithm uses the text in your listing, so the words you choose affect whether your item appears in search results at all.
| Listing element | What to include | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Brand + item type + colour + key detail | Searchable, specific, scannable |
| Category | Be precise - use subcategories | Appears in filtered searches |
| Brand | Select from list or type accurately | Brand-name searches are common |
| Size | Use the stated label size | Buyers filter by size constantly |
| Condition | Honest selection from Vinted's scale | Sets buyer expectations accurately |
| Description | Material, measurements, wash care, flaws, why selling | Reduces questions, builds trust |
| Price | Based on sold comps, not what you paid | Sets realistic expectations |
| Colour | Select the closest match | Colour filtering is widely used |
A good description takes two minutes and looks like this:
"Zara linen blend trousers, size 12 (UK). Wide leg, elasticated waist. Worn twice, washed once. Small pull on the left rear pocket - shown in photo 6. Smoke-free, pet-free home. Happy to answer any questions."
Short. Honest. Specific. That's all you need.
Step 4: Price It Correctly from the Start
Pricing is where most new sellers go wrong - myself included, as I mentioned above.
The temptation is to anchor to what you paid. If you spent £60 on a coat, £20 feels like a bargain. But Vinted buyers aren't comparing to retail price - they're comparing to the 30 similar items listed right now.
How to price correctly:
- Search Vinted for your exact item or close equivalent.
- Filter results by "Sold" (tap the filter icon and look for sold items).
- Note the prices that items actually sold at - not what they're listed for, but what moved.
- Price at or slightly below the median of recently sold comparable items.
Condition matters. A "Like New" item might fetch £28. The same item in "Good" condition might sit at £18–£20. In "Satisfactory" condition, you're probably at £10–£14. Be honest about condition and price accordingly.
| Condition | Description | Typical discount vs Like New |
|---|---|---|
| New with tags | Unused, original tags intact | - (premium pricing possible) |
| Like new | Worn once or twice, no visible wear | Reference price |
| Good | Some light wear, no damage | 20–35% below Like New |
| Satisfactory | Visible wear, minor flaws | 40–55% below Like New |
| Poor | Significant wear or damage | 60%+ below Like New |
One useful tool: Vinted suggests a price when you create the listing. It's based on similar items. Take it as a data point, not a directive.
Try it: Use the Vinted profit calculator to work out your exact margin, especially if you're reselling items you've bought to flip.
Step 5: Set Up Shipping
This is where Vinted makes life genuinely easy for sellers. With integrated shipping, the buyer pays the postage cost at checkout. You receive a prepaid label. You drop the parcel at the carrier point. Done.
You don't pay postage out of your sale proceeds. If someone buys your £20 jumper and ships it via Evri for £2.62, they pay £20 + £2.62 + the buyer protection fee. Your balance shows £20.
When setting up a listing, you'll be asked to estimate the item's weight and size. This is used to calculate which carrier options to show buyers. Be reasonably accurate - if you say something weighs 500g when it's actually 1.5kg, you may need to arrange a new label.
Available carriers and their rates for Vinted integrated shipping:
| Carrier | Service | Small (<1kg) | Medium (1–2kg) | Large (2–5kg) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| InPost | Locker-to-Locker | £1.99 | £2.59 | £3.99 |
| InPost | Locker-to-Home | £2.89 | £3.99 | £5.99 |
| Relay | Standard | £1.99 | £1.99 | N/A |
| Yodel | Store-to-Store | £1.99 | £2.59 | £3.98 |
| Evri | ParcelShop | £2.62 | £2.62 | £2.62 |
| Evri | Home Collection | £3.29 | £4.79 | £6.59 |
| DHL | eCommerce | £2.79 | £2.79 | £4.90 |
| DPD | Shop-to-Shop | £2.99 | £3.74 | £4.99 |
| Royal Mail | 2nd Class | £4.25 | £8.75 | £8.75 |
| Royal Mail | 1st Class | £5.45 | £10.05 | £10.05 |
For lightweight items under 1kg - most clothing - InPost locker-to-locker at £1.99 is the cheapest option. If you've got an InPost locker nearby (they're in most supermarkets and convenience stores now), it's hard to beat.
Try it: Use the Vinted postage costs calculator to compare carrier prices for your parcel before you list.
Step 6: Once It Sells - What to Do
When a buyer purchases your item, you'll get a push notification and an email. Your job is now:
- Check your messages. Occasionally a buyer will ask a question just before checkout. Reply quickly.
- Package the item well. Use a poly mailer for clothing, a box for fragile items. Wrap things you'd be happy to receive yourself.
- Print the label or save the QR code. Your shipping label is in the Vinted app under the order. Many carriers (Evri, InPost) allow QR code drop-off - you show your phone screen, no printer needed.
- Drop off at the carrier point. You have a few days to ship - but faster is better for your feedback score.
- Mark as shipped in the app once you've dropped it off.
After delivery, the buyer has a short window to raise any issues. If they're happy - or do nothing - funds are released to your Vinted balance automatically.
Getting Paid
Once funds are in your balance, go to Settings > My balance > Withdraw. Enter the amount (minimum £0.01) and your bank details. Transfers typically take 1–3 business days.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
Pricing without research. Check sold comps before you list anything. Five minutes of research is worth more than any other tip in this guide.
One photo. A single photo is the fastest way to get no sales. Take at least six, show every angle and every flaw.
Vague descriptions. "Great condition, no longer needed" tells a buyer nothing. What brand? What size? What fabric? Any flaws? Give them specifics.
Ignoring messages. Buyers ask questions and make offers. If you don't respond within a day or two, they buy from someone else. Turn on notifications.
Not mentioning flaws. This one causes disputes. If there's a mark, a small stain, a missing button - photograph it and describe it. Transparency protects you.
Taking transactions off-platform. If anyone asks you to pay or accept payment outside Vinted, decline. You lose all protections the moment you leave the platform.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you pay any fees when selling on Vinted? No. Vinted charges sellers zero commission. You receive 100% of your listed price. The buyer pays a separate protection fee on top - you don't lose any of your sale proceeds to it.
How many items can you list on Vinted? There's no published cap on the number of listings. Active sellers regularly maintain hundreds of live listings with no issues.
What condition should I list items in? Be honest. Vinted's condition scale runs from New with tags through to Poor. Select the option that most accurately describes the item. Overstating condition leads to disputes and negative feedback.
Can I sell on Vinted if I don't have a printer? Yes. Most carriers on Vinted (Evri, InPost, Relay, Yodel) support QR code drop-off - you show the code on your phone screen and the carrier handles the label. You only need a printer if you choose Royal Mail.
How do I make my listing appear higher in search results? Use accurate, specific keywords in your title and description. Fill in all fields completely. Price competitively. Items that receive engagement (views, likes, offers) also tend to rank higher. Bumping your listing (Vinted's free daily bump or paid feature) pushes it back to the top of feeds.
Can I offer discounts on Vinted? Yes. You can enable automatic discounts for followers, accept offers below your listed price, or create bundles with multiple items at a combined discount. All of these can increase your sales velocity.
What's the minimum price I can list an item for? Vinted has a minimum listing price of £1.
When do I get the money after a sale? Funds are released to your Vinted balance after the buyer confirms receipt or the inspection window closes - usually 2 days after confirmed delivery. Bank transfers then take 1–3 business days. See how does Vinted work for a full explanation of the payment cycle.
